The daedohobu was the office for local government officials like a city hall doubling as a judicial office between
Goyreo Dynasty and Joseon Dynasty era. 'Dohobu’ means the administrative district in the era. It was designated as the national historical site no. 388 by Korean government.
The structure was used as accommodations for officials from the central government to inspect the region.
Many parts of this structure were destroyed by Japanese occupation and the Korean war, and restoration work continues. Visitors can try traditional costume of the officials
and other cultural things in the era such as lying on the rack, and take photos. It is a good place for foreign tourists to take photos. One of its main gates, Sammun of Imyeonggwan, is the No. 51 national treasure.
‘Jeondaecheong’ is where people made deep bows toward the place the king stayed twice a month and its signboard is written by the king, Gongmin who put his all efforts into reconstruction of the country in the late Goryeo Dynasty.
It is said the flea market is held at the Gangneung Daedohobu on every third Saturday, 4 p.m.-11 p.m. between April and November(except August) in 2018.
