Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon are the brother and sister
who were among the most famous authors in Joseon Dynasty. The Heo Gyun & Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Park is their house they were born and lived. Works and portraits of the brother and sister are exhibited in the house.
Heo Gyun’s elder sister, Heo Nanseolheon was a poet.
Her poetry was very popular even in China and Japan. In the era it was criticized that women expressed their thoughts by poems,
and even the story of ‘Hong Gildong Jeon’ was very shocking to the high class. The brother and sister were pioneers in Joseon literature, and both lives were very rough and ended tragically. Heo Gyun is the author of ‘Hong Gil-dong Jeon’, the first novel written in Hangul,
which is the story about a fictional super hero, Hong Gilgdong resisting the hierarchical society. There is the place for visitors to get commemorative stamps.
Visitors can taste Korean traditional tea and learn about the tea ceremony at Chohui Traditional Tea Ceremony Experience Hall in the park. ‘Chohui’ is Nanseolheon’s real name.
The cost is only 1,000 won. Very cheap! Opening hour is 10 a.m.~5 p.m. Closed on every Monday. On every first and third Saturday, the puppet show, ‘Nanseolheon’s Dream’ is played at the park. Walks surrounded by pine trees and Gyeongpo Lake are around the park.
