I am the manager of Gangneung Tours!
The first Gangneung International Film Festival (GIFF) was held in Gangneung in 2019.
I will explain what events were held from the opening ceremony to the closing ceremony of the GIFF.
The red carpet event, the beginning and highlight of the GIFF was held.
A lot of important people paricipated in the event, such as actor Ahn sung-ki,
the GIFF organizing committee chairperson Kim Dong-ho, and the Gangneung mayor Kim Han-geun.
For the opening film, “A Little Princess” was selected, so all the actors were featured on the red carpet.
Actor Moon So-ri and director Jang Joon-hwan also appeared on the red carpet.
The most outstanding actors on the red carpet were Kim Seo-hyung and Kim Rae-won who re born in Gangneung.

so you can reserve the movie that you want to see according to the movie schedules.
Now, I will introduce various events.
First, there was a program event.
The GIFF had a variety of lectures where directors and staffs gave us a detailed lecture.
The master class program has been prepared.
The GIFF has invited director Koreeda Hirokazu and Writer Yun I-hyeong
who won the 2019 Yi Sang Literary Award and under the theme of “What can a movie do?”
they discussed the social and cultural roles of a film.
This is the special talk section of the program event.
The GIFF invited director Lee Jang-ho and director Bae Chang-ho
who made a film version of the works of writer Choi In-ho who was passed away in 2013,
and the visitors had time to look back on the films,
directors and actors, based on the works of the writer.
This event also had a conversation with the audience.
Directors and crews answered the audience’s questions and talked about their movies and
they had a great time with the audience.

A table talk event was also held in the Gore Bookstore.
Under the theme of the beautiful movies loved by Gangneung writers,
there was a table talk event where the participants watched “a movie you want to watch with
your loved ones on a late autumn night in November” selected by writers. and they shared opinions.
There was a memorial service for Pierre Rissient at the Shinyoung Theater.
This event paid tribute to the late Pierre Rissient (1936 to 2018),
who was a painter, director, critic, film lover, as well as an enthusiastic supporter for Korean films
while inviting his colleagues to watch his work together.
In addition to these programs, the GIFF has prepared a lot of other programs
such as commentary screenings workshops, and live dubbing activities.

In addition to the program event, another event was held!
The Gangneung Arts Center held a VR lounge event.
Visitors were able to experience VR films that have evolved from the previous movies and
they enjoyed the high-quality VR movies
that have been well-received at domestic and international film festivals.

This is a 100X100 event.
Visitors were able to enjoy a variety of 100 movies of 100 seconds produced
by 100 Korean movie directors in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Korean film industry.
< Special Concert Free >
The special concert for the GIFF has been also prepared.
The concert is special film music & talk concert prevented by theater actors and musicians.
The participants could enjoy Gangneung, film and music played
by Korea’s leading theater actors, and a beautiful networking party.
They had a time where beautiful movie music was played on the piano
with video just like the romantic moment everyone dreamed of.
Finally, the closing ceremony was held.
“Bob Dylan: Dont Look Back” was selected as the closing ceremony of the GIFF,
which is a American documentary film that covers Bob Dylan’s 1965 concert tour in England.
The closing performance ended with performances of Gangneung Project Band,
Yang Byung-zip, and Kang San-ae.
Various programs and events were held at the GIFF in 2019.
