Jeongdong Simgok sea fan roadThe fact that we meet this road is a great luck.
Jeongdong Simgok sea fan road is a 2.86km coastal trail connecting Jeongdongjin and Simgok port. It is designated as Natural Monument No. 437 and it is the only coastal peninsula area in Korea that tectonic changes of 23 million years ago can be observed.
It was originally used as a reconnaissance service for the coast guard and was forbidden by the public, but it was first unveiled in 2016, October. The name of the road was made by Lee Soon-won, novelist from Gangneung. 'Jeongdong' means eastside of Hanyang where kings lived, and 'Simgok' is the name of the town in the deep valley. Here, the shape of the terrain spreads like a fan toward the sea, so the new expression ‘sea fan road’ was added. It is the name that shows the author’s literary sensibility.
Jeongdong Simgok sea fan road is the road that was created over time by the sea. It took a long while for us to be able to walk the Mongdol beach where stones have become smooth by washing waves over long period of time, the rocks that have stories, and the observatory where you can look out at the sea. Isn’t it great luck?

"Heonhwa-ro Road" It is a coastal road from Simgok port to Geumjin port. It borrowed its name from ‘Heonhwa song’ with the story of an elderly man sacrificed a flower on the cliff for a beautiful lady. As its reputation of being the closest road to the sea in Korea, there are traces of waves on road. It is also famous for its drive course, but if you want to enjoy the stunning charm of sheer rock cliffs and the view of the cool blue sea, you can also walk slowly along the sidewalk of the road.
