Heonhwa-ro Drive Road is the shooting place of the ending scene of Drama ‘Signal’
Even if you haven’t watched the show, when you just spot the site,
you must think like "where on earth am I?"
It is the nearest coastal road from the sea in Korea and is 2.5km in length linking Geumjin Beach and Simgok Port.
This winding road runs between sheer cliffs and the East Sea.
The name of ‘Heonhwa-ro’ originated from the folktale.
There was a woman who was famous for its beauty in Silla dynasty.
She rested on the beach on the way to Gangneung.
When she saw the azalea on the cliff, she asked if there was anyone could pick it,
but there was no one possible to do it.
Then an old man passed by and picked the flower on the cliff, handed it to her, singing a song about offering a flower. ‘Heonhwa’ means ‘offering flowers’.
The background of the folktale and the scenery of this place were matched and the road was called ‘Heonhwa-ro'.
It is better than other coastal roads because the guardrails are low,
so you can enjoy the remarkable seascapes with rocks.
Which is why visitors say that it is "the most beautiful road where I’ve driven ever."
