Sungyojang Househouse with storie
Seongyojang is the old house of 300-year-old history that maintains the traditional style of the Joseon Dynasty. Every house has a stories, but there’s a mysterious story of Seongyojang about weasel.
The first owner of this house is Lee Nae Beon who was a 11th descendants of Prince Hyoryeong. After moving from Chungju to Gangneung, he was looking for a good place to live, He followed the group of weasel, which suddenly showed up, and found a propitious site for a house. He built a house and it’s now Seongyojang.
Thanks to the energy of the propitious site, the descendants of the Sungyojang were wealthy for generations. They shared their wealth to neighbors by opening the barn when the famine came and the guests who visited the house were served without neglect.
A lot of people gathered to share the discipline about art and learning in the 'Youlhwadang’, which means 'a house of sharing pleasure and exchanging friendly talk.' The ‘Hwallaejeong’ located at the pond was also opened for guests.
Still Seongyojang is an old house that many people visit. If you go inside the door, you will be relaxed and calm because of its classical grace and dignity.
